Concept A Photography
Rich and Megan of Concept-A Photography bring together a blend of photography
styles. Megan has been classically trained in photography while Rich crossed
over from a background in film. Together they create dynamic, unique and sexy
images for each of the weddings they photograph.
Where were you born and raised? Where have you settled?
I was born in Santa Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Megan was born in Chicago
and raised in Savannah, GA. We definitely took different paths in life to get where
we are but Savannah is now where we both call home.
What type of photography do you shoot most often? What type of photography are you
most passionate about shooting?
We specialize in weddings and portraits. We love connecting-with and capturing the
beauty in others. Wedding and portrait photography is our outlet to capture and
create images others might not even see or imagine. We love what we do and are so
happy to be able to share our vision with others.
How long have you been a shutter releaser? What led you to this profession?
I have had the love since my first B&W photography class in high school. That and
my love of technology swayed me to film and video... I soon found that my true love
was taking stills.
How has Zenfolio helped your business?
When I started our initial search for an online proofing system, I knew that we
had to have a couple things. The first was ease of use (for both the client and
us). And second, I really wanted the system to integrate with our lab and workflow.
Zenfolio’s solution did it all! With a straight export from Lightroom, a highly
customizable site, and integration with our lab, we couldn’t be happier with Zenfolio!
Tell us about your workflow, what editing program do you use?
We are primarily digital shooters and shoot 100% RAW. Since the release of Adobe
Lightroom, we have fully converted to using it for our image processing and use
it for pretty much everything these days. So much in fact, we hardly touch Photoshop
Do you have brand loyalty for Canon, Nikon or something completely different?
We are definitely Nikon people; I have shot with Nikon since their early film cameras.
Are your photography skills self-taught or were you classically trained?
I am entirely self-taught, from video to stills. Megan is classically trained...
It is so great to able to offer both of our unique styles to our clients.
What advice would you give a new photographer just starting out?
Practice. Choose your mentors wisely. And most importantly, read your manuals and know your gear.
What was your first published work?
I had my first work published a couple years ago, and I guess when it rains it pours,
as my work was published in Professional Photographer Magazine and EventDV Magazine
in the same month.
What inspires you as a photographer? Or who?
I am inspired by creative light, mood, and pretty much anything dramatic. I am also
inspired by my clients and love to feed off of them.
If you could photograph anyone, alive or passed, who would you choose and why?
Hmmm, tough one! For me, it would probably be Kurt Cobain. Kurt and Nirvana’s music
have always been special to me. For Megan, it would be the Notorious B.I.G., because
no matter what, as she says, it would be a killer image!
What is the very first camera you ever owned?
My first camera was a Kodak 110 camera by Fisher-Price. Megan’s a Minolta XG-A.
Tell us something about yourself that we would never guess.
I am a trash TV junkie. Seriously, I will watch about any reality TV show out there.
I don’t want drama in my life but I sure do find it amusing on TV!
What piece of equipment or doohickey do you have with you on every shoot?
We always carry multiple speed lights with us at all times. Depending on the lighting
situation or mood we want to create, lighting is key.
Do you have any final words of wisdom on being a first class shooter?
Be patient, good things come to those who wait!
