Where is your home base?
Los Angeles, CA
What is your photography genre/specialty?
Wedding and Portraits, including Engagement, Boudoir, Maternity, Baby, Family, Lifestyle, and Branding Photography.
What is your most memorable image and why?
A photo I took of my eldest son when he was a newborn. It was such an overwhelming time. I was struggling with being a new mom and a photographer/business owner. And by the time I got my first few rolls of film of him developed, my heart melted. I was reminded how quickly they grow and the value of what we do. We capture moments that we can’t recreate, only relive through memories.
Why did you become a photographer? What drives you to capture images and has this changed over time?
I love telling stories. I love being invited to share in people’s lives, and then document them through my perspective. I get to know my clients, their deepest thoughts, and most intimate moments, and retell their story through my lens.
Do you have any personal rituals to help you get ready for a shoot? What are they?
I visualize the story and shoot I want to do.
What are the top 5 things you can’t live without while on a shoot?
I pack really light—either my Canon 5dm3 with my 50L and/or my Contax 645 with my 80mm lens, CF card and film, and that’s it!
How do you regain your inspiration if you hit a creative rut?
I shoot something for myself and collaborate with someone who inspires me.
Who or what has been the biggest influence on your journey as a photographer?
My husband, Jonathan, who started the business with me and second shoots on weddings with me. He listens to all my crazy ideas and helps me actualize them.
If you could share just one tip with aspiring photographers, what would it be?
Find your voice. You are what makes you unique. Only you have your perspective. Shoot a lot and find your voice. No one else can be a better you than you. And when clients want you for you, no one can ever compete with you.
What are the top three Zenfolio features essential to helping you run your business?
Photo gallery, digital downloads sales, and print fulfillment.
If you could second shoot with any photographer (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
This usually surprises people, but I don’t look at others’ work. I am rarely on the computer, and aside from posting on my own accounts, I am not on social media or blogs… I have a really short attention span. I prefer creating to consuming.
How has the photography world changed since you turned pro?
I started when wedding blogs were just starting up—Instagram and Pinterest didn’t exist yet. With all the different social media outlets today, we are able to get information out so much quicker and farther. Brides are able to get access to inspiration and resources literally at the palm of their hands.
What one piece of software besides Zenfolio do you consider to be vital in your workflow?
Gmail and Google Drive
